Carmel founded Insignia in 2009. After graduating from UCL with an LLB in Laws, Carmel was admitted to Grays Inn as a Barrister. She was then admitted to the Bar in Hong Kong where she was in private practice before joining the Hong Kong Government. Upon return to the UK Carmel qualified as a UK solicitor. Since 1996 Carmel has specialised in trade marks, designs and related IP. Carmel is a UK Registered Trade Mark Attorney qualified by examination and a member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. She also holds the right to conduct litigation relating to trade marks and designs before the UK courts.

Sam Holland

Registered Trade Mark Attorney

Sam obtained a degree in History from Lancaster University before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP in 2013. Sam is a UK Registered Trade Mark Attorney qualified by examination and a member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. He is also qualified to assist in conducting litigation relating to trade marks and designs before the UK courts. Sam specialises in filing and prosecution of trade marks as well as enforcement and the management of client trade mark portfolios.

The UK Trademark registration Process

Your UK trademark application is filed

Your UK trademark application is prepared and then filed with the UK Intellectual Property Office. It is essential that the correct trademark and goods and services specification is applied for.

Two Weeks Later

The UK IPO Examiner issues the examination report for the application

A UK IPO Examiner will review the application to determine whether it meets the criteria for registration. If there is an official objection by the IPO to the application, it is likely to be raised at this stage. In the event of an objection, there will be a deadline set by which to remedy it.

If there are no objections raised, then the examination report should set a date for when the application will proceed to publication.

Two months later

The UK trademark application is published

Approximately two months after the examination report is issued, the trademark application will be published for third party opposition.

During the two month opposition period, third parties will have an opportunity to oppose the application. If an opposition is successful, then the application will be refused in whole or in part.
